Whole Nopales in Brine are flat rounds of peeled cactus pads, light green in colour and ready to use straight from the jar. They have a taste similar to a gherkin, with a gentle sourness, a touch of salt and a light floral note. The texture is soft, yet firm and flexible, with a pleasant bite and a few fibres running through – best sliced before use.

Nopales are a staple in Mexican cuisine and offer a truly authentic ingredient for your kitchen. Our Innovation chef recommends using them in tacos with crumbled plant-based feta and sweetcorn salsa, or simply sliced into salads. They can also be grilled or pan fried, which releases a gelatinous substance that helps thicken sauces, much like okra.

Nopales are a future 50 ingredient, high in fibre and offering a similar flavour and texture to gherkins. They are less tart and can play a more central role in dishes compared to pickled jalapeno slices.
